The rising cost of energy and food pushed Spain's EU harmonised inflation rate to an 18-month high of 4.1 percent in October and the government expects it to remain at that level going into the New Year.
At the beginning of 2007 inflation in Spain stood at 2.4 percent falling to 2.2 percent in August, from there it climbed to the current 4.1 percent.
Food prices have been hit by domestic shortages and rising demand as living standards go up following a 10 percent rise in property prices since 2000.
